Search types

Phrase search

Phrase search looks for a set of words in a specified sequence. It is not case sensitive. Example:

Contract of employment

Proximity search

Proximity Search looks for words that are grouped close to each other. You could use it to find documents that contain aaaa within, say, 8 words of bbbb. Example:

“Credit Card”~8

Include and exclude

Allows you to specify terms that must and must not be present. For example:

  • choose documents that have ‘Card’ and ‘Number’ in their body or title: +Card +Number

  • choose documents that have ‘Card’ but not ‘birthday’: +Card -birthday

Fuzzy matching

Useful when you are uncertain of the spelling you need to search for or where you want to include documents in your search that contain words that have been mispelled. For example:

acomodation~

This search term finds documents that contain: acomodation, accommodation (the correct spelling), acommodation, accomodation, and the plurals of those words.

Wildcard

Traditional wildcard search.

Advanced grouping

For example: +(tel phone telephone) +number
